Now that Dual Band routers have become standard with most new routers, many users want to use the high speed routers to their fullest potential.
But what if your old computer or laptop doesn’t have support for dual band?
The easy answer is a Dual Band Wireless USB adapter.
Dual band works in both the 2.4 GHz and the new 5 GHz frequencies. All routers and devices until dual band worked only in the 2.4 GHz range. The new 5 GHz range has less traffic and can move data at high speeds.
Two things are needed to take advantage of Dual Band transfer speed.
1…A USB adapter / Dongle that can work in the 5 GHz range.
2…A 802.11ac/n wireless dual band router.
Wireless N, or 802.11n will work in the 5 GHz range but is limited to 300Mbps transfer speed. While the new 802.11ac protocol is rated to move at speeds up to one Gigabyte, in actuality the speeds are usually closer to 400-750Mbps.
