There are many different models which the top selling ones listed at the bottom of the page.
How does a GPS tracker work?
A GPS tracker can receive a GPS signal and pinpoint its location but needs a way to transmit the information back to a user.
There are two methods for transmitting location information back to a user.
1…Subscription based service
This is the method most used since it doesn’t require much technical knowledge.
After the GPS device is placed on a object to track a subscription service can be paid to take over and send you the information.
They offer a Google map interface to visually see the object moving with addresses and time at stops.
Things such as smartphone apps and setup alerts are often part of the package.
This is a good option for someone with little to no technical ability.
2…Cell Phone Based Systems
This type of tracker uses the cell phone network to transmit a signal back to a user.
A cell phone SIM card will need to be bought and setup with the unit like a cell phone.
Software on a computer or a smartphone app is used to receive the GPS information and display it to a user.
If you have some degree of technical know-how than this would be a good option since there would be no monthly subscription cost.
Since this is more technical this is the least used option but would be a good fit for a computer savvy individual.
