A new generation of routers are available with the new 802.11ac protocol but one stands out above the rest, the Linksys EA8500.
Who doesn’t love fast WiFi, especially with cable and DSL companies upping their game and bringing faster internet to homes.
While there are many 802.11ac Gigabyte routers few can offer the theoretical speed of the Linksys EA8500 which is 1,733 Megabits per a second on 5 GHz and 800 MBps on 2.4 GHz.
This is an incredible speed considering that until last year when dual band routers were released opening up 5 GHz, old routers ran only in the 2.4 GHz range and with 802.11n (Wireless N) could only reach speeds of 300 MBps.
Keep in mind in order to reach these speeds devices that connect to it must have a 802.11ac chip built in.
Older devices will simply default to their max speed.
The EA8500 comes with a 1.4 GHz dual-core Quallcomm SnapDragon CPU and four Gigabit ports.
It also has a USB 3.0 port and a combo USB 2.0/eSATA port.
The USB and eSATA ports are easy way to add storage to your network by attaching a hard-drive or flash drive to the router were data can be shared throughout the network.
Another nice feature is the ability to setup a home VPN easily with the routers software.
After setting up the router as a VPN connecting to it on the go with a secure encrypted channel will keep communications safe, no matter what WiFi or open signal is used.
If you need the fastest router around in 2015 the Linksys EA8500 is a option that is tough to beat.
Even though faster is always good every house or even business often doesn’t need the speed and capabilities the EA8500 has to offer.
But if you are a home or office bandwidth hog the Linksys EA8500 is definitely worth a look.
